The Nuremberg Chronicle is an illustrated history of the world which begins with a paraphrase of the Bible and includes the histories of a number of important Western cities. It was written in Latin by Hartmann Schedel (1440-1514) and also published in a German edition, both issued by Anton Koberger (1440/1445-1513), the German goldsmith, printer, and publisher of Nuremberg. This leaf book contains Folio CCXXVII, from the longest segment of the Chronicle, the sixth age of the world (beginning with the death of Christ), with 5 woodcut portraits of saints and scholars. Printed in Latin with Gothic type, single column, with 60 lines on the recto and 57 lines on the verso. There is minor foxing and minor water stains to the top margin of the leaf, else in fine condition. REFERENCE: De Hamel and Silver, Disbound and Dispersed, No. 57.
