Thumb Bibles are a common genre of miniature books. The Newbery Bible, printed in 1780 for E. Newbery, was an early example of a thumb Bible, and one of the smallest of its kind. This volume features the final leaf from an original Newbery Bible, and an essay by Ruth E. Adomeit describing the Newbery Bible and the history of thumb Bibles. Adomeit was editor of The Miniature Book Collector from 1960 to 1962, and her own collection of miniature books was one of the largest assembled during the twentieth century. She was also a leading member of the Miniature Book Society. REFERENCES: Bradbury, 20th U.S. Miniature Books, No. 36; Jones, A Los Angeles Typesticker, No. 95.
