"The report covers an area topographically mapped by the Federal Government in five 15-minute quadrangles comprising an area of 700 square miles, namely: Point Arguello, Lompoe, Point Conception, Los Olivos, and Gaviota quadrangles. In this report the geology of the area is described in great detail and graphically shown on colored lithograph maps which are accompanied by stratigraphic, structural, an physiographic diagrams. The economic minerals of the area are also described and mapped. These include oil and gas, asphalt, diatomite, limestone, bentonite, flagstone, road gravel, manganese ore, and ground water. The report describes three important oil fields - Captain, Lompoe, and Zaca, as well as the world's largest diatomite quarries." Letter of transmittal.
