1969 fascimile reprint edition of the 1849 original edition by Negro Universities Press, a division of Greenwood Press. 8vo. 146 pp. Black-and-white folding map of the world; light pencil lines in the margins, otherwise the text is clean. Brown cloth, gilt spine, no dust-jacket (as issued?); binding square and tight, minor shelf wear, else as new. Josiah Clark Nott was an American physician who made important contributions to the epidemiology of yellow fever and malaria. Nott's racial theories supported American slavery; Nott posited that each race was a separate species. Charles Darwin cited Nott's racial theories to refute them and assert that the human races were a single species. An excellent working copy from the private collection of Richard Popkin, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at UCLA. Your order receives my personal attention.
